Adam Tilston celebrates passing Chartered Insurance R06 exam

WE WOULD LIKE TO CELEBRATE ADAM’S RECENT SUCCESS IN PASSING THE R06 EXAM ON HIS FIRST ATTEMPT.

THIS EXAM TESTS THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND PLANNING SKILLS ALREADY GAINED WITH PREVIOUS STUDY. IT SUPPORTS THE PROVISION OF COMPETENT AND APPROPRIATE ADVICE.

ADAM HAS PROVIDED SOME USEFUL TIPS AND AN INSIGHT IN HOW TO PREP FOR THE EXAM AND PASS!

Adam tells us…

“R06 was a bit different in terms of preparation. Usually I would study the book, make pages of notes and answer hundreds of questions. With R06 I never touched the study book and went straight to the 2 case studies upon release.

For each one, I broke it down sentence by sentence to see where there may be shortfalls in the client’s needs. I also noted anything that stood out to me from experience, such as having unused allowances or a concentrated portfolio of investments.

Then I looked at what the client’s priorities were to discover which solutions were available to them. I found it useful to imagine that they were clients of mine, for whom I would have wanted the best. It’s worth exploring any solutions that come to mind, studying the ‘ins and outs’ of them and how they work (this shouldn’t be too time-consuming as each case study generally has its own niche – e.g. inheritance tax planning or pension planning).

From there, I found all past R06 exam papers and answers online which helped me massively; as having a strong exam technique is crucial when completing the R06 exam. I sifted through them, looking for similar case studies which I could apply to mine. It was then just a case of filling in any gaps, to improve my answers and solutions further.

The case study breakdown booklet provided by St. James’s Place (Redmill R06 Analysis) was also extremely useful in refining my exam technique.”
